Can I use Nikon SB-28 on my K-x?

I have a bunch of old flash guns. I have a couple of Vivitar 283 Made In Japan that is known to fry digital SLR's when mounted on the camera's hotshoe. That's why I only use them as wireless strobist units.

I found 2 Nikon SB-28's that I can borrow for free. In know TTL may not work but that's OK.

Do you think it is safe to mount it directly to my Pentax K-x hotshoe?

Yep -- you shouldn't have any issues. Before I got my Metz 48, I used a Nikon SB 24 on my (K10D) hotshoe exclusively. It worked great in manual mode. I don't have the SB24's any more, I now have 2 SB 28's and use them for off-camera work. Really nice little flashes.

A definite yes. In fact, if I don't need p-TTL (I don't trust it as much as I do auto mode), high speed, or wireless flash, I prefer my SB-25 to my Pentax 540.

It does work, but I couldn't get the AF assist spotbeam working, shame because that would otherwise match all my requirements.
