As for the shutter speed rule of thumb, ie: shoot at the lens's focal length (with a 200mm lens shoot @ 1/250th, 50mm @ 1/60th etc.) and the minimum was pretty much 1/60th with any lens to be safe. The SR seems to give me good results 2-3 speeds lower and can sometimes get a good shot 4 times lower (but rare).
sorry to jack the thread, but thanks for that bit of info! I had been trying to keep my speeds above 1/125th for all my shots so that rule of thumb will be helpful as I learn the ropes on dslr's.

I'm slowly getting the hang of my K100D, but when I adjust the shutter speed, I get confused... the values in the viewfinder are in single digits, and sometimes I get "lost" after much adjusting... what does it mean when the shutter value is 0.3? I'm learning to use Tv mode first before moving on to the others...

Do you mean 0.3" ? That " indicates seconds so it's 0.3 of a second, (1/3) not to be confused with 1/30th of a second.
Going from the camera the shutter speeds start at the longest first, 30" meaning 30 seconds:
30"25"20"15" 13"10"8" 6" 5" 4"3" 2.5" 2" 1.6" 1.3" 1" 0.8" 0.6" 0.5" 0.4" 0.3" then the speeds above 1 second 4 meaning 1/4th (slow) or 640 meaning 1/640th (fast)
4,5,6,8,10,13,15,20,25,30,40,50,60,80,100,125,160,200,250,320,400,500,640,
800,1000,1250,1600,20002500,3200,4000

Hope that helps a bit
