Gentlemen... I really want to thank everyone who offered their thoughts here. The solution was one that Little Laker brought up about a hundred replies back, and I thoughtlessly ignored for one reason... I don't use auto bracketing. (yes, this was the problem!) I'm like Peter in the fact that for bracketing, I set up each shot individually. I was stumped. After a few more of you brought it up I wondered if I should look at the one thing I didn't think was possible. Then I wondered if my wife (who swears by 35mm film) was playing with my digital. My wife said she set it up a few days ago for bracketing while seeing what the camera could do... then promptly forgot about it after trying it out once. Guess I learned to check everything you guys suggest when I ask for help... no matter how alien the possibility seems.
Manual is working, and I'm a happy boy! Well, as happy of a boy as a 50 year old fart (51 on Tuesday - groan) can be.
I guess on Monday if I want to go to the camera store, it will have to be to buy something, not bring anything in for repairs - lol.
