Mojoe 24 ~ I love the "voltage" shot! My hubs works for the power company, so to me this shot is just beautiful and dangerous all at the same time.

More of a fun picture than best, but I want I was messing around with my 50mm and was tired of just shooting the flowers (or lack there of) in my back yard.

Also, here is one of the flower shots I was getting tired of. I think I did terrible in PP. But I'm liking the DOF with the 50mm

My best so far - and I would appreciate any and all tips - especially white balance:

^^ I think your WB is OK, just make sure you shoot in RAW then you can adjust the WB to your liking in PP. I'm finding that the K-x 9/10 needs a slight WB adjustment, auto never seems to get it quite right (I have been too lazy to try set modes yet - coming from a D90 which auto was spot on in almost all occasions apart from difficult light sources).
The problem with your subjects, especially with 1 and 3 is they are white, metering from a grey card would have been the ideal solution but again shooting in RAW would enable recovery of the shots somewhat.
However, the biggest problem by far is the focus - your first image is at f/19 and the background is most in focus, the seagulls are not. For this particular image, something like f/8 would have been better and locking focus on one of the mallards in the forefront, or even better the seagull looking backwards since he's the main subject imo.
The second one, up the f stop to f/11 (or smaller but depends on the lens diffraction will start to occur) and focus on a subject closer to you (I forget the calculation), focus and recompose (Hyperfocal Distance)
The third one, again, your f stop is 6.7..far too low and it shows because the ship, especially its mast, is very oof. Again use hyperfocal focusing..this is an excellent tut:
Using Hyperfocal Distance to Ensure Maximum Depth of Field in Landscape Photography

anyway, keep plugging away mate and don't be disheartended by what I'm saying, I'm not trying to be harsh, just some constructive crit

Hi Timmy,

I really appreciate all of the advice, and I agree about the focus, but I have another question. Can you tell me how to see exif data for pictures on the forum?

great glad you didn't take it as bad feedback, the 2nd one especially has potential to be a wonderful shot
for the exif data, I use firefox and the 'exif viewer' plugin, then I can just right click on an image and there is an option to view exif data

Wow, that's a very uniform pattern for a 15 second exposure! I like it
