I think you are seeing motion blur, not a focus issue. The exif shows 1/13" second shutter speed at f4.5 with a 105mm lens. That's awfully slow for that lens length, even with SR considering the subject may not have been completely motionless.

I'm not sure if it was the dog itself that was moving or my shaky old-man hands.

Thanks for the tip. I'm completely new to DSLR's, but am trying to learn everything about them I possibly can - it's a lot to absorb! I will say this though, the K-X is making me look a hell of a lot better at this than I feel I am. lol
