First real chance to use my new (to me) K-x. Went for a walk with my boy around the Johnson's Geo Centre here in St. John's. The colours of Newfoundland in late April.

I'm most pleased with the semi-macro shot of the tree buds. Really windy day, I think that one was the only one in focus from the entire burst of pictures I took.

Contrast and saturation has been played with all of these using Picasa, all of the shots came out of the camera slightly washed out, so not sure if it was just the time of day or if I can improve on the camera settings. Some of the pitcures have been cropped to improve composition.

ISO: 400, f/6.3, exp: 1/800, 18mm, Lens: 18-55 DA L

ISO: 400, f/18, exp: 1/200, 18mm, Lens: 18-55 DA L

ISO: 200, f/14, exp: 1/160, 23mm, Lens: 18-55 DA L

ISO: 400, f/5.6, exp: 1/800, 55mm, Lens: 18-55 DA L

If you are shooting jpeg, then there are a couple adjustments you can make, you will still get the dull washed out haze look every once in a while. If you are shooting in raw, you will see that look a little more often - it is nothing to be concerned about though, its just a fairly typical thing with digital sensors across all manufacturers (this is why post processing is a critical thing these days).

FYI: Picture 2 shows you have a dust spot on your sensor...

Thanks. I generally shoot jpeg, I haven't graduated to RAW PP yet. Google Picasa is about as good as I get right now . I don't mind the PP, just wondering if there was anything else I could do.

Yeah, I saw that spot in a couple of other photo's I didn't post. I believe the sensor shaker got it. Noob mistake I think - changed the lens on a windy day.

I was surprised how well it came out considering how badly red-shifted the image was. After much gnashing of teeth I've learned that digital cameras tend to be sensitive to infrared contamination, which means post processing is sometimes a must to get the red/purple color from an image. This one had that bad before I ran it through photoshop.

Two Pictures

This is from a shoot while I was talking a short class in B&W photography. This is one part KX and 1 part Photo-editing.

This was a night short (hdr) of a local church.
