BlackRockBacon - I had to pop over to flickr and fav that one. Love it.

We had a storm front roll through here today, and the sun made a failed attempt at coming out just at dusk. What it did do was create a very, very surreal sunset.

This was basically a straight from camera DNG to JPG conversion. The sky was literally this color today at sunset.

Don't think I've posted anything here yet, looked at this thread and passed it by so many times...

After using the K-x for a year now, I've gotten many great shots, not sure if I can pick out the best, but here are a couple of pretty nice ones.

Bluejay at close range, K-x with Vivitar 200mm f3.5 screw mount lens. My favorite lens by far.

Train taken with Lentar 135mm f2.8, also M42 screw mount. Another excellent lens I've grown to like extremely well.

Robber fly having breakfast. This one was flying around carrying this dragonfly, twice his size. I noticed it because when it flew after I spooked it, something didn't look right so I followed...taken with the Lentar 135 and part of a Vivitar extension tube set, 28mm total extension so I could get a bit wider angle than the whole set.

Dragonfly close up. The full Vivitar extension tube set on the Lentar 135. EXIF says 200mm, I forgot to reset the camera when I changed lenses.

These are just a few, and probably not my best, but I'm not going to sit here and dig through over 5000 keepers, don't have them all on this computer or Flickr anyway...just the most recent ones.

Hehe, thanks! I'm not quite sure, some of them are from my SMCK 35/3.5 lens which is ridiculously sharp with really good color rendition just by itself. The other ones are tweaked in lightroom a little until I am satisfied with them. Although I've gone back through some of my older pictures and my tastes as far as colors/processing has changed so I wind up editing another copy, I've spent so much time doing this instead of working lately

You're welcome. So you work in Light Room? Do you work a lot with saturation / color casting?

I haven't been incredibly happy with my own colors lately, so I'm trying to learn how other people produce the imagery I like...

Yeah I am in Lightroom 3.4 or whatever the latest version is. I try not to oversaturate, I prefer to play with the contrast and vibrance and desaturate a little except for the colors I want to stand out, which I will play with the levels individually (ie, decrease luminance/increase saturation of blue/aqua for the sky if needed, or desaturate yellows in grass a bit and over saturate the greens a bit). Also, as far as landscapes go, adding a graduated filter / darkening the exposure / increasing the contrast of the sky a bit while leaving the foreground properly exposed and lowering the contrast a little can make a world of difference.

As far as any color casting that's usually the result of a downloaded preset or filter. If you're unhappy with your colors that's actually what I'd recommend, download a few free filter packs and try them out, use them as a base or starting point and alter from there. I relied heavily on filters when I first started out, but now I've been going with a minimalist approach as much as possible unless there's a feeling I am trying to convey

This photo isn't great, but it's a pretty clean example of what you can do with 3200 and a relatively low amount of light. I have given it some post production love.
