Great use of contrast on these images. Really love the detail in the blacks in the photo of airplane seats!

Freeride Comp

I was shooting at an underground freeride ski competition last weekend. I got lots of action shots, but like this one for its simple colours and composition.

I like it for exactly the same reasons - striking image. Nice work.

You are right about the colours and composition. The shot looks great. You were also clearly at the right spot at the right time. Well done.

Thanks, Mark, rawr. It was a great opportunity for action - the competition was actually to see who can put together the best 'edit' (as the kids call their videos these days) for the World Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler later this month. These guys all ski around with cameras strapped to their helmets, poles, snowboards pretty much all the time now, and edit bits together for self-promotion and for fun. So, each of the skiers/boarders were filming their runs, and they could have a couple of friends with cameras shoot video which will be put together over the next couple of weeks.

So, for a guy with a still camera it was a great opportunity: I got to hang around in a beautiful alpine bowl filled with rock features and a couple of big jumps, with close to twenty guys ripping it up for about two hours before the sun made the avalanche conditions too sketchy. Here's a few more:
