Hi buddy,

No worries, go on a backyard safari. Try and make the ordinary extraordinary. It's great practice and really satisfying. Give it a go, you can make some great photos around the house.

Just set up a bird bath in the yard. It always gives me something interesting to shoot (All K-x shots, all DAL 55-300).

Drinking Butcherbird

Noisy Miner bird bath

Magpie water monster 1

dane.dawg, the second dog shot is great! Also, the bee-in-flight shot is also a good one, love the comp on that one, looks as though the flower is a super sized monster of a flower compared to the bee

OK, these are not my best K-x shots, but reasons why I love this camera. It's 1:30 A.M. last night. My wife thinks we have a burglar. It turns out we have three--out on our balcony. I grab the K-x, which happens to have the FA77/1.8 on it, switch to manual focus (AF was useless), and shoot these through the window at ISO 12800 by a single porch light (the last one at 3200 with flash) as the burglars escape.

great shots.
amazing quality at iso1600.i cant see any noise.
this is where i got lots to learn.i never go above iso 200 in daylight.
was ant filters used?

Thanks. 1600 ISO on the K-x is fine if everthing else is done right - exposure, focus etc. I often set the camera to Sv (Sensitivity Priority) mode @1600 ISO when shooting small birds since it pushes up the aperture (for extra DOF) and the shutter speed too. No, I never use filters on the 55-300.

As an aside, there is a guy on flickr who has recently been shooting the same birds, using a full-frame Canon 5D2 and a AUD$9000 EF 600mm f/4L IS USM Canon lens. His shots using his $10000+ setup are not at all better than my K-x/DAL 55-300 shots of the same birds.
