This is just a guess...I don't have a K-X....

Is it possible that the KX uses the aps-c sensor to do metering when the green button is pressed? If this is so, then you would hear both the mirror flaping and shutter opening/closing. Do you hear the shutter opening/closing as well as mirror flaping?

If by shutter closing down, you mean blades closing down, then yes. I hear the blades closing down first. It works as if a digital preview is performed except that no image is obtained from the rear LCD. I did see the blackout in the optical viewfinder at the time of mirror flapping

And the sequence goes something like this
  1. green button
  2. blades closing down
  3. mirror flap up and down
  4. black out on ViewFinder happens
  5. shutter re-displayed in viewfinder

The whole sequence goes so quickly that it appear 2 & 3 goes together at about the same time.

Thanks,
Hin

No LiveView on K2000

Hin,

I meant not only the blades inside the lens closing down but also the mechanical shutter curtains in front of the aps-c sensor opening and closing. Your description of the mirror flipping up and "down" then followed by viewfinder blacking out suggests to me that the camera was most likely opening and closing the mechanical shutter to take a meter reading with the aps-c sensor.

If the mirror flipped up and then backed down, then you should not see the viewfinder blacking out after it flipped back down. I think the sound that you thought was the mirror flipping back down was actually the mechanical shutter opening and closing and the mirror was still in the up position - hence the viewfinder was still blacked out after the second "click" sound.

One way to verify this is to shine a small flash light into the viewfinder while you press the green button. If you still get a correct meter reading, then the KX must be using the aps-c sensor to take a stop down meter reading.

(Note: Point and shoot camera uses its imaging sensor to meter exposure. So this is something, relatively speaking, that is technically easy to do.)

Thanks,
