I hope that this isn't a stupid question on my part. How come you have to go into the custom setting menu to utilize the ISO 6400 feature. Why isn't it included on the 100-3200 screen when you hit the fn button?--charliezap

Because the quality really drops off. Its an emergency setting. They don't want consumers (or clueless reviewers) shooting at 6400 ISO and blaming the camera for the reduced quality. Most brands do the same thing.


ps 6400 can have a lovely grainy look on the right subject.

Because iso 6400 is not done with hardware, it is some kind of software push done in the camera. The kx is the same way with iso 12800. The highest the K20/K7 can shoot by increasing sensor sensitivity is 3200.

In my opinion, you are better shooting at iso 3200 and pushing the photo yourself. Just be ready to convert to black and white.
