vertical band on images K20d

Hi, I've just purchased a K20d and the images are producing a vertical band on the left hand side in landscape and a horizontal line at the bottom of the image in portrait. This is happening in all image formats as well as at various exposures. Any idea’s what might be causing this? Cheers

As you just bought it, then you could replace it in the shop and not worry about it. Looks like a sensor issue.

I don't know about the camera, but fix that fan before someone gets hurt.

What kind of light are you shooting in? Fluorescent lighting can cause banding in images over 1/60th of a second in shutter speed. The reason for this is that the kind of light isn't constant, it is actually a series of small pulses so only part of the sensor catches the light at one time.

are you severely underexposing the image? I've seen this banding when I take a picture that's been 4-5 stops underexposed (set to for studio lighting and I nudge the shutter speed over 1/180 so the strobes don't fire and I get a black frame)...

Vertical banding - K20d

That same issue was discussed here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/71190-pentax-k20d-...-problems.html but with no real conclusion. I noticed it on a few shots with my K20D back in August, but nothing since. Perhaps to do with D-Range on? I normally don't use D-Range, but it was on for those shots where I noticed exactly the same banding as you show here.

Appreciate the replies.

I'm shooting in all types of lighting conditions, and trying various exposures. Also tried various ISO's and D Range. What I’m finding is, the more the image is over exposed the less you see the band/strip. Slight over exposure will almost remove the band totally, however, zooming in to 100% and beyond will reveal the band as a faint line. Shooting in hi contrast conditions always seems to result in a slightly darker band on the edge no matter what exposure I dial in.

If the sensor worked as well as the 12v fan I would be a very happy cool man.

Pentax Canada

I sent mine back to Pentax Canada to get fixed it. The service is wonderful. It took just a week to change the cmos sensor.

look at mine. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/93683-k20d-banding-issue.html

I only seen this in one photo and hope it want show up again. But you have a real problem when it shows up in every photo. Try to get your money back from the seller or you have to get it repaired or live with it.
