Something better than K-7 at PMA?

I really would like to buy the K-7 now, however with PMA just around the corner, I feel like I should wait just in case something else better comes out.

I love everything about the K-7 and am more worried about Pentax coming out with something better than any competitor.

Does anyone even think a camera better than the K-7 (same class) will be coming out?

The K7 sequel will not be released till the fall -- maybe announced at the end of the summer (depending on leaks).

Pentax doesn't release as many models as other companies (they also don't have as many lines). They're usually on a 2yr major change, 1yr refresh cycle. i.e., relatively minor updates happen every year, and big changes happen every 2 sometimes 3...

They also tend to release in the fall for x-mas sales...

I also think that, with the success of both current models we will likely only see a K7 refresh later this year (following the 645D release - which isn't for most of us unfortunately!). August/September seems like an appropriate time, as long as the K7 is selling. The K-x will definitely be here for awhile, I highly doubt there will be a replacement this year (though an announcement at the end of the year could be possible). Perhaps they could do a K-x2, but honestly what could you add to that camera to make it better? (aside from a firmware update for better video controls)

Sure you have the Christmas buying time argument against that theory, but when sites like dpreview won't post a review up until 2 days before Christmas even with a release in mid-october, why should Pentax bother? The K-x will sell well next holiday season, and the people who are actively seeking a new model and doing their research will wait if there is an announced model in Nov/DEC coming down the pipeline for a Jan/feb 2011 release.

The word from a camera dealer where I am is that Pentax will release the X90 prosumer superzoom camera before the end of first quarter 2010. No mention of any DSLR.

you will always be caught in the advancement of technology

when ever you want a new camera, there will always be a perceived better one coming out in the future, and the price of your camera will always go down.

Ulness you are really caught budget wise, just go out and get it. There will be nothing wrong with the camera even if a newer model is announced later.

Having said this, I generally wait for something significant before going for a new body.

I bought an *istD then waited until K10D abd skipped *istDS, DS2, DL, K100, K110 K100 Super

I Waited again for my K7 and skipped K200, K20, Km, and I think one more.

Since then has come the Kx

Great response. There's always a slightly better gadget 6 months down the line. Even in 6 months time

With no inside information, I predict the "K7a" is in the works with better low light performance and better video capabilities.

I am definitely not one of those people that continually holds out for the next best thing. I am actually a gadget freak, however PMA is less than two weeks away that is why I was just curious since you Pentaxians would have a better idea of what's better than a newcomer like myself.

Unfortunately..... I ordered the K7 with 18-55 lens today anyway! I couldn't wait... Now I need to figure out if I should buy a 70/2.4 or 77/1.8 or 50-135/2.8...

A new flagship already? Don't hold your breath. At end of 2010 at the EARLIEST, but most likely not until after Q1 2011.

They'd better not!
I have enough money grabbers to contend with without having to worry about a 645D on my dreamboat.
