Camera Kings Import model?

Looking to buy a Pentax K-x. Camera Kings has it for 450, but I noticed it was an "import model" rather than the USA model and that the warranty is through them rather than the manufacturer, 1 year on labor, 90 days on parts or vice versa. Anyone have any dealings with this company? Also, if something is amiss with a DSLR, does it usually present itself early on? They've got it for no tax and no shipping for 450, so I was about to pull the trigger until I noticed this little caveat.

Glad you asked!

Try Store Ratings & Reviews - ResellerRatings.com - Shop Safe & Avoid Scams

Search for reviews of Camera Kings.

And read the reviews very, very carefully. Look for a common thread.

Like warranty. And "insurance". And "They called to fix it right after I posted a bad review."

Then ask yourself if you can trust their word that their "warranty" will protect you.

Then buy from a Pentax-authorized dealer.

Please.

Camera Kings (bwayphoto.com, preferredphoto.com, digitalliquidators.com, regalcamera.com, more..) - camerakings.com - Reviews, Ratings and Prices at ResellerRatings

ResellerRatings.com gives them a 6.87 out of 10. That's a very mediocre rating. Its not nearly as bad as the known scammers from Brooklyn, but not nearly as high as the known best retailers, such as B & H or Adorama.

The average is mediocre. That's only part of the story.

The reviews themselves are telling. Too many appeared to be modified only after the buyer posted a poor review. And too many spoke of missing warranty cards, missing parts/gifts, and "helpful" sales people who sold them a hi-power memory card. For a ridiculous price.

I expect these folks are, in fact, among the Brooklyn lot. Just look at all the company identities. And look beyond the simple score.
