I wouldn't advise any 30 second exposures using a 500mm lens but under normal circumstances you are not going to harm your sensor shooting sunrises, sunsets or even full noon sun.

Camera still works...

I also sent the same email to Pentax USA and here is the reply I received :

Thank you for contacting Pentax.

Taking normal exposures of the Sun from the surface of the earth will not cause damage to the camera's sensor.
Long exposure photographs of the sun are not recommended, as continuous exposure to the sun could cause sensor damage. This should not be a problem that you will run into, because the sun is so bright that there is no need to take long exposures.
