[K10D] focus adjustment per lens

It's my understanding that a K10D can be calibrated for (a number of) individual AF lenses by a Pentax repair centre. Is that correct?

Note that I'm not talking about debug firmware or the functionality in the K20D/K7 where the user can do it.

I believe the K10 will only support one global correction for AF bias.
A call to your local service center will give you a definitive answer though.

Yes, that is correct. K10D support up to 3 lenses to correct by service software.

I also asked Pentax about this.

Unfortunately, all of the lenses must be Pentax lenses. They won't calibrate for any other makes.

Which means my lovely Sigma 24-135 is verbotten on my K10D. It was spot-on with my *ist DL, so I know it's not the lens.

Having the ability to custom adjust multiple lenses is what keeps me yearning for a K20D or K7, even though I am trying to hold out for the next round of cameras (hopefully K7 class with 24fps video.)

Pentax told me a while ago the K10D can work with up to four lenses, not three. If you send them your camera and up four Pentax lenses they will "dial the lenses in to focus properly on your K10D."

Thanks people, at the moment it's definitely one (FA31), maybe two (DA18-55). My camera is in for calibration with all the lenses.
I just needed to be prepared as I visited them yesterday and they were not quite sure how to do it. They have the benefit of the doubt.

Also thanks for the info about third party lenses; I was pondering about a Sigma 105mm macro, but it might be better to get the Pentax DFA100 in that case (just to have the calibartion option).

The third party lens issue is a kicker. I love my Sigma 24-135, and just added another Sigma (15-30).

So I decided to jump on a good for an open-box K20D. I figure at half the price of a K7, it's worth it. The K10D is a fantastic camera but my lens choices really limit it.

On a side note, the K20D seems to focus the Sigma 24-135 correctly, out of the box with no focus adjustment. Is that irony?

My own copy of the Sigma 24-135 would certainly not be worth the investment in another camera body! On the istDS it was a useful walk-around lens, but on the K20 it is so soft, real lack of contrast not misfocusing, that it is completely unuseable. I really think, the 14 MP sensor is beyond the capapbilities of that lens.

The 15-30 on the other hand is quite a good lens, widely underrated. It is very big, which is the only drawback, I can find with itů

The third party lenses and the K10D is an issue. If they work, great. But if they don't it is a setback/ My Sigma 10-20mm was BF in my K10D and could not adjust it. So I look for an affordable used K20D. Now I have both worlds since some Pentax lenses are more expensive than the third party ones. Primes is another story (Pentax all the way).

Send camera and lens to Sigma. I heard good stories about that.
