Left my K-x and FA 31 in the back of a cab...

... which seriously sucks.

However, it's "relegated" me to my old K100 and I'm surprised to be enjoying the pictures out of that more than the K-x (lenses being equal).

How can this be? Sure, high ISO capability and autofocus speed (and lack of hunting) are in a different league... but for regular photography, the K100 images just seem more pleasing.

Much as I want to run out and get another K-x, this niggling finding is stopping me from doing so.

Hope I don't have to wait too much longer for a K-8...

But man, I really do miss the FA 31

Wow. that's a bit of a hit. If you have a homeowners or contents insurance policy you may be partly covered (minus the deductible).

Sorry for your loss... especially the FA31

your findings re general shots with the K-x is not surprising. I prefer using my K-7 for most shooting and the feel handling and features are a class above the K-x, but I am liking what I see in low light shooting with the K-x combined with my ltd's and have now decided to keep it as my backup camera.

Was about to sell it after having it for 2 weeks... something I think you wish you had done considering the loss.

There's a fair number of people who like the colour response of a CCD sensor better than that of a CMOS sensor. I personally am not one of them, but the difference exists and it does matter to some people. I suspect this is what you are seeing in the K100D shots that you prefer.

The photos from my K20D, K2000 and *istD do seem to have much more rich colors than from my K-x. But I get that back in pp.

The K2000 seemed to excel in this area more than the other two. I didn't think I would miss that camera, but I do.... maybe I need a K10 or K200! (same sensor).

You know, I went from the k100 to the k-x with no other camera in-between. I was initially disappointed as well. Mediocre lenses (like the kit) looked more mediocre on the k-x. Weaknesses I hadn't noticed on the K100, for example, the "softness" of the FA50, seemed more pronounced.

I'm reasonably convinced at this point that is it simply a matter of more pixels show more stuff, good and bad.

BTW, a little after action report: I had the K-x out bar hopping last night for the first time, with the FA50, and was utterly stunned by the quality of the portraits I could do of the "regulars" at ISO 6400 in light so dim you could barely read a menu. Much better results than the old K100, which was no slouch in the low-light department either. It is really a qualitative, not just quantitative difference.

That really sucks. Sorry to hear that. We'll be on the lookout for a new forum member that says, "Hi, I'm a cabbie and just got a Pentax K-x..."

Just saying hi... found a K-x in the back of my cab the other day, so I guess I am a new Pentaxian.

Should I use rechargables?"

Are we living in a world where you can be certain that it is lost if left in a cab?
Did you at least call the cab company and inform them about your loss so the driver has the chance to return it to you?
I can tell from experience that most people are quite honest and would not take advantage of other peoples carelessness.
