I am somehow confused about the issue here...

Why cant one just pass the camera under "P" mode again?

That's what the "P" setting is for.
The green setting isn't screwed up, you just don't understand the purpose of it and want it to be something that it isn't.
If you read carefully the thread above, you see that someone makes a point of handing it off to friends in the Green mode. Thus my argument shows it doesn't work for RAW shoots of self. I do understand the Green mode; it did shoot RAW on the K10D, didn't it now? I just checked -- RAW works fine on my K10D and always did. Hence the behavior of the Green mode changed, without explanation, for K7.

Please explain why you can't just use P mode for this?

I guess the obvious question is why is an explanation needed?

What Pentax has done is fixed the green mode to ensure that users of it can't screw anything up.

If you want to hand your camera off and have raw files, put it in P mode.
This isn't rocket science.

Tang is Rocket Science.
I understand that Post-It notes are rocket science.
Apparently WD-40 is rocket science.

I'd guess that some users complained that Green mode *didn't* revert to JPEG. Like I said, you can't please everyone.

You can of course use "P" mode as the wuick hand-it-off-to-someone else mode. It won't reset ISO to auto for you (although you can do that yourself), and might leave some other settings in non-Green state, but presumably you have them in a useful state already.

I would like to see custom setting that copies the current camera setup to green mode. And one to reset to factory defaults. That way you *CAN* customize to your hearts content and still have a green mode for hand-off or quick shots etc...

Maybe there are custom user modes for that? I only have a K100D so I am not familiar with the "advanced" bodies.

We call that "USER" mode.
Green mode is for when you don't know what you are doing, P mode is the same as Green mode but lets you make adjustments.
It's quite simple, really.
