K-7 has something loose

I finally did it and sprung for a new K-7. But as I was turning it over in my hands, admiring it, I noticed that something is loose inside. I makes a noticeable popping when I turn it from side to side. Is this normal?

Probably the SR mechanism. The sensor is mounted on a plate that can move a little so when you shake when taking a picture the camera will move the plate to compensate for that. When the camera is not powered on, it does not hold the plate in place and that is what you hear; kind of "kdong"

Another one!!

Don't worry, I'm not laughing at You, just the frequency of this question.

Does your camera take pictures? If so, don't worry about the noise. It's normal. The sensor isn't on a fixed station but sort of free floats to obtain the image stabilization.

Enjoy your new camera. It's a hell of a piece of digital technology.

(ps, Welcome to the club)..

Lately I've been tempted to answer these questions with the following:

"OMG! Your brand new camera is RUINED! Don't let anyone tell you it's the shake reduction system, the truth is, this is a dire defect that will eventually destroy the camera, and if you don't get it fixed RIGHT NOW, Pentax will blame YOU for not noticing it soon enough and you'll be without a warranty! Don't go whining to them when the sensor falls out of your camera some day as you're changing lenses..."

of course, I'm just too good a person to say such a thing.

This may be the most asked question on this forum, ever. Perhaps a sticky should be made explaining this?

I was just going to post that. Wow, we really need a sticky on the "Pentax Clunk." It has been the most asked question since Pentax started doing in-body SR.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Definitely need a sticky, or even just a motto under the Friendly Pentax Discussion Community logo that says: the cameras that go clunk and keep on working.

Nobody reads the stickies or searches for their answer anyway.

OMG! That's the sensor not fixed and loose inside!
Kidding aside..it is actually not fixed and loose since it floats on magnets for Pentaxs' vesion of the in-body SR.
Enjoy! Don't rattle it too much.

Same noise on K20D (maybe a little less), nothing to worry about

K-7 has something loose

Thank you all for the entertaining replies to this thread. I certainly considered the SR system. I can only assume that this is an upgraded version because my K10D certainly did'nt go clunk. And maybe its just me, but having a situation where something sensitive like a sensor rattling around seems a bit dicey. I'm sure it will take fabulous pictures.

But normally the K10d do go "clunk" when tilted.
