You do have some really nice shots, the second to last one is great! (well, not so great for the folks whose property just burnt down) If you're willing to shell out BIG BUCKS for a mythical 300mm f/1.0 (which would probably cost as much as my house), why not spend $900 on a 70-200mm f/2.8. It would be TWO whole stops faster than your current telephoto lenses at their long ends. You'd be able to shoot that baseball shot at ISO800, so there would be alot less noise. And you'd still have money left to eat Or spend $5K on a Canon/Nikon 200mm f/1.8, that's more than a stop faster than the f/2.8...

Between can you use manual focus lens? Cos there are some cheap old manual focus lens that are faster than 5.6@200mm.
i LOVE MF lens, i shot menny photos with my K1000 lol it just hard to find any like that. i know that Pentax made a Pantax SMC FA* 80-200/2.8 ED [IF] but it is no longer being made and they are hard to find

Wouldn't a series 1 vivitar 70-210mm f3.5 be better than with what you're shooting now? They seem to be quite cheap.

is that F3.5 @ 210 or 70

i know all most nothing about series 1 vivitar lens i had a hang up about vivitar lens in genial. BUT i am getting over it sense i got a series 1 vivitar 100-500 lol i used one onece and it sucked it was not a series 1. (my 100-500 is in the shop)

200mm or so is nice but i like some thing a bit longer like 300 and up.

i would like a

1000mm AF (or MF) just for thows times when the police will not let you get close

i have already had one police officer say that he did not like that i have my 100-500 and my 500 mirror lens lol he sed i was photoing too much LOL

i would LOVE to see the look on there faces when i pull out that 1000mm LOLOLOLOL

Haha! You remind me of a very successful businessman here in NZ by the name of Dave Clark, he himself suffering from Dyslexia has difficulty spelling and even pronouncing words correctly. Yet despite his awkward way of communicating with words he proceeded to create the countries largest and most prestigious graphic design firm from scratch.

The Vivitar is f3.5 @ 70mm i have one but it's not as good as the Pentax smc F 70 - 210 (49mm filter) which has the same speed. The Vivitar (67mm filter) is pretty big and heavy compared to the pentax and has a so-so macro funtion, both are relatively cheap but beware of internal fungus due the age of the lenses. Have you tried looking at Sigmas long range offerings?........maybe talk to a few of the talented Birders here who use the big guns. Sounds (and looks) like you could do very well for yourself in the future. All the best.

Yep, sorry it is a constant aperture lens. You can find more on the different versions here....

Vivitar 70-210 Series 1 Macro Zooms - Mark Roberts Photography

That said, if you can find a Preset Takumar 200 f3.5 it will not dissapoint you. Asahi designed this lens for Photoj's. If you see one on the market grab it!

this is the only real compliant i have with Pentax lol you can find a LOT of GOOD fast lens that cover 10mm -135mm then there is an ok selection 135mm - 200mm the faster stuff in this range are a bit hard to find 300mm + they exist BUT are EXTRMLY hard to find people have them BUT are not selling lol and well i do not blame them

Not to take anything away from Pentax,
but I believe canon has a 250-500 f/4 telephoto that goes for about 600.

I'll check it out and edit when I find the link/find out im wrong.

edit: NVM. It's a 70-200. My mistake. Best choice is to go with a sigma telephoto.
They are worth every penny, in my humble opinion.

Nathan.... Take a look at Noise Ninja. This could help with your low light issues a lot cheaper than a $5,000 fast lens...

photoj??

So, when did "photoj" become the latest slang for photojournalist or photojournalism? I ignored this tread for several days because I had no idea what that meant. Perhaps that's why others didn't immediately respond as well. Regardless, "photoj" sounds almost as silly as the "PJ" used during the Vietnam era decades ago.
