K7 + ISO 6400

I finally found the part in the K7 manual where it says how to set the camera for an expanded ISO rating of 6400.

What effect does this have overall? And if I leave the Expanced Sensitivity setting on all the time, does it affect the results which occur with lower ISOs? I am always working in RAW.

What about the K-x? Is its high ISO peformance better than the K7's? I know there's an extra stop in theory, but is there really?

With regard to the expanded sensitivity, basically it uses software to push to iso's past 3200. there is nothing wrong with using it, but most people find the performance to be pretty weak above 1600. It may be better to push the images yourself in post.

Falk Lumo has done some pretty vigorous testing of the sensors and found that there really is a difference between the K7 and kx. Basically, there is less noise in the shadows. The real significance of that is more than better high iso shooting, it means that there is a greater dynamic range.

As to how much people see it in "real life shooting," it is hard to say. I have seen some awfully bad images with the kx and some really good ones with the K7, so I think it still comes down to the photographer.
