Good! well done....

I agree it's scary to do it....
because any mistakes can mean a "bricked" camera....
but once it's done it was kind of nothing.

Here are the steps I now do to calm myself down -
may sound paranoid -
1) download the firmware twice - prefereably from two different sites (eg: USA and Japan).
2) compare the checksums (using ExactFile)
2.a) if they are exactly the same proceed - if not, find out why.
3) format SDHC in camera
4) copy the correct .bin file to the SD card root/base directory.
5) paranoia step - do a checksum of the file on the SD card - it should be the same as the other checksums - proceed only if it is.
6) make sure batteries used are fully charged (I always do a top up charge).
6.a) confirm that the battery indicator is Full Green - only proceed if so.

Well, I sure didn't verify the check sums, but that's a good thing to know for all computer work. And I didn't format the card, but it was just done yesterday and I understand why. So the bin file isn't fragmented all over the card.

Whole thing took maybe 3, 4 minutes--and I watched that progress bar with religious fervor.
