Is it Caturday?!

Snapshot using K-7 (1.02) at 1600, no PP. Nice if 1.03 brings some additional improvements to IQ.

I thought it was an honest review, but I also thought that it was clear that the reviewer was more familiar with Canon cameras. The K7 comes in somewhere between the 7D and the 50D. Probably closer to the 50D in specs, except for video, but Pentax does throw in some nice features.

As far as high iso goes, I think the big issue is banding. As long as there isn't banding, you can clean up your photo really well after the fact with some of the de noise software out there. If there is banding, then all bets are off.

That looks pretty damn good @ 1600. Although it helps that the lighting was already pretty good.

Here is a shot at 1600, deliberately underexposed under very poor lighting.

My K7 was never this clean at 1600 before I sent it in for repair.

Although the uploading it to this site has degraded the quality.

Is it just me or does the Pentax have more accurate colour rendition? It seems to stay more neutral under the non-daylight WB tests, and the skys in the Canon shots start going purple...

can you do a 100% crop so we can see the noise level in detail?

Not from raw nor any noise adjustments
Nice picture but this is a thread about the Pentax K-7 NOT the 7D.
If you have a similar shot with the Pentax K-7 for comparison, I can buy whatever reasoning for posting it but I can't see the relevance of posting a shot taken with a Canon camera on its own. What's the deal? Showing off or what?

Give the guy a break. joakimfors posted a comparative K7 pic in reply so it works nicely in the thread. And hey, cats are always welcome.

I agree .. if it were from the 50D then yes I could see its worth (as the review was a straight comparison between the K-7 and 50D) but a 7D is a good 30% more price wise than a K-7 (here in the UK anyway).

Cant see what all the fuss is about ISO 1600 anyway.

ISO 1600 on a K10D .. no noise reduction used.

I think Pentax users on this forum should be the ones to get a break from other equipment fanboys. There's already a dedicated Off-Brand section catered solely for the likes of the 7D and other non-Pentax gear. Why post here?

The thing with high ISO is if it's shot under good lighting then it's not so important, now i'd be curious to see the 7D & K7 at 1600 under bad lighting conditions.

This thread was about k seven and fifty d and yet here again a cannoneer randomly posts a seven d pic. Theres obviously got to be some sort of uncontrollable psychotic state of insecurity rage in them to see so many canon fannys here lately.

Posted low light/high iso pics today...

Check out my thread under "Post Your Photos" entitled "Pub night". There you will find 5-6 low light/high iso shots I used wth my K-7 in a dark pub, pretty much miserable shooting conditions with no flash...It's a little grainy, but in a nice way, not in an electronic tasting way, if you know what I mean. This is with firmware 1.02.

Here is the direct link.

Hi C.W Tsorotes,

Thanks for your information.

However, I guess there's some upgrade which could only be done by hardware so that your K-7 became much better after you sent it in for repair, and that's also the reason Pentax didn't mention anything about high iso noise improvement when they released 1.03 firmware.

Btw, would you please share the original-sized file of the photo you posted?
Anyways, thank you very much.

Firstly I'm not a Canon fanboy and in fact up till now I have detested all things Canon being an absolute head(ostrich style) in the sand Pentax K10D fan boy up till now.

The fact is, I was going to buy the K7 but the 7D was slightly more $ and to be quite frank blew the K7 away on many fronts.

The pic was taken with a cheap 50 1.4 at 1.6 1/320 with negligible ambient light, auto white balance and evaluative metering as jpg.

I have done nothing to this pic but auto sharpen auto contrast (NOTHING SPECIAL) plus the IQ has been degraded as it has been saved to jpeg twice and compressed from a 5184 x 3456 to a 1024 file by Flickr.

The 7D is Canon's flagship (for the next year) cropped sensor model as is the Pentax K7 so I thought why not let some see the noise profile of an 18mp cropped sensor which is not supposed to perform well at high iso's.

Anyway a crop from the above pic and last post as I will possibly be lynched;-)
