Problem upgrading my K-x to firmware ver. 1.01

I downloaded the firmware upgrade to version 1.01, followed the instructions in the readme file to the letter, but nothing happened. The firmware file "FWDC206B.BIN" is in place on the SD chip, I held the "menu" button and turned the camera on. Nothing happened. The power LED came on, but the LCD remained completely blank. Concerned that I might interrupt the process and bork my new camera, I waited 5 minutes before shutting it down. During that time nothing appeared on the LCD: no messages of any kind. Turned the camera back on (not holding the menu button) and it appears to work as before.

I am out of ideas and hope someone here can provide some suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Tim

Did you exect follow step by step this instruction: Pentax Canada - K-x?
Draw attention that in that instruction mentioned BLANK, formatted SD/SDHC card (32MB or more). Possibly you write file to the SD, witch already contained some photo files?
This is more detailed instruction with screensots, russian language, you can translate it with google for example: http://www.pentax.ru/service/software/qm-item-eq-111.htm

Can you get to the menu menu without the SD in the camera?

Also, did you format the SD card on your computer before writing the patch file to it?

I would format the card, and download the file again.

Thanks all. Like an utter noob, I didn't notice that the sd had a folder on it. Apparently, the update won't run unless the only thing on the chip is the update file.

Thanks again.

Minor correction. You can update the FW with a folder on the card but you MUST have the BIN file in the root directory of the card and not in any folder. It does not hurt to format the card before the update just to be safe.

I had the same problem.
Insert the update SD/SDHC card (prepared in step 1) into the camera and close card cover.
Turn the camera power on while pressing the MENU button !!!
That's all
Good luck.
