Sigma 600mm on Pentax *istDs

Hi

I have just purchased a Sigma 600mm F8 mirror lens to use with my Pentax *istD S. But I do not seem to be able get it to work. My other manual lenses (50mm and 135mm) work so assume that it must be something to do with the fact that the Sigma is fixed aperture.

I found this post

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/45132-sigma-600mm-...-new-k20d.html

but this relates to the K20D.

Is there any way to get my Pentax *istD s to work with this lens?

Thanks.

Manual mode, meter with green button. It should work no problem. I use a similiar one on my DS.
And yes, you have to allow aperture ring use.

green button

You might want to take a look at the top stickys in the beginner's corner Q&A forum for some info on the green button usage. There some real good stuff in there.

It's a function of the camera. I doubt however that your camera has it. On the bK100D (which does not have it), it's an item in the custom menu that relates to AE-L and M mode that gives the same functionality

Again an item in the custom menu on a K100D

So read the manual is the first suggestion.

OK, my bad. I'm talking about the AE-L button when I say green. Does the same thing.

Aperture ring. Go to the custom menu, scroll down till you see "using aperture ring". Set it to #2.
That's all you need to do. Now put it in manual mode, focus, press AE-l button, push shutter button. If it is too light or dark. You can use the thumb wheel to change shutter speed.

With this lens, just skip all that metering stuff. It's only got one aperture, f8. So although you don't get an aperture readout in the viewfinder or top display, the lens works fine in all modes.

Exactly. No need for Green Button and M mode at all. Av etc. works fine with a fixed aperture lens.
