KX: 2nd or 1st generation of 18-55mm

does K-X come with SMC Pentax-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II, or the 1st generation?

I think it's still third since the DA L came out with K-m before DA WR

If you are asking about optically, the answer is that it is the same as the 2nd version of the kit lens (which is optically the same as the WR version as well).

Thanks. So in term of optical, it is the same as WR; in term of material, it is the same as 1st gen that comes with K2000?

Yes, only that the one that came with K2000 (and K-x) is the third gen.

1st Gen: DA
2nd Gen: DA II
3rd Gen: DA L
4th Gen: DA WR

optically II, L, and WR are the same

The K2000 and K-x ship with exactly the same lens: the DA L. As has already been explained, this is optically identical to the other *current* 18-55's - the II and the WR. There have been only two different versions of this lens optically - the long-discontinued original, and all the others.

Amazon lists some $630 K-x / 18~55 / 55~300 kits that show the 18~55 AL (non-II) version in the item description. These ship from Amazon, All About Electronics and others. Curiously, the description seems to indicate the full (non-L) version of the 55~300. The product descriptions and images are not precisely clear about which lens versions are included.

That might be why the OP is asking.

True. Read the descripgtion very carefully and ask the seller if there is an question. There are four versions: the "L", "II", and "WR" which are the current (and optically identical) versions, and the original, which lacks any indication of L, II, or WR (although it does say "AL" in the full name). No sense asking which is generally sold - ask the sller about the specific lens he is selling,l if the description does not make that explicit.

The lens that comes with the K-x is just great. I ordered an original hood for it.

I've seen the II and the DA L version with the K-x depending on who you get it from. That is a little intriguing however because I thought that it only was supposed to ship with the DA L version of either the 18-55mm, 50-200mm, and the 55-300mm, but I've definitely seen it shipping with their non light counterparts.

I've owned the generation I 18-55 kit lens and had pleasant results with the *ist DL. I hear the II version is subsequently improved optically and is worth the bit more.

Most definitely, the second version is a little bit sharper and has a little less distortion, but most importantly the vignetting is gone. That was the one thing that annoyed me most about that lens too.
