k-7 + 3 sec delay = no flash slave. Anyone know why?

Hello,

A friend of mine doesn't understand why with K-7, on a 3 sec remote control trigger flash slave is disabled. Would anyone happen to know why and what can be done about it (other than a corded remote)?

Many thanks

I can verify that this is true with the K-7 as well as K10D. I think it's true with all Pentax DSLRs, at least the K series.

I haven't been able to find out why.

For remote shutter release, I find myself using the YongNuo RF-602TX more and more.

It is RF, so I don't need line-of-sight. The range is greater (I haven't tested it for range, but more than 30ft for sure).

More importantly for indoor flash shooting: I still can use wireless flash even with 2 sec delay shutter release.

The trade-off is that the RF-602TX is larger and clumsier with multiple components.

The RF-602TX costs $28.49 on FleaBay with free shipping.

I think the reason may be that, with the delay timer, the mirror is flipped up at the beginning of the delay, two or three seconds before the exposure. Since p-ttl requires that the preflash be done while the mirror is down, it would have to occur at the beginning of the delay. AFAIK, remote slave control is only possible with p-ttl flashes, unless you are using a simple optical slave.

I have a K10D, but no p-ttl flash, other than the built-in unit. I've never tried flash with a delay, so I'm not even sure how the on-board flash is controlled during a delayed exposure. Does it always fire at full power?

D'oh! That makes a tremendous amount of sense - thanks noblepa. I'll ask about the flash & delayed exposure
