For the price and feature set the K-x is your best bet, imho. All lenses attached are stabilized. There are many lenses new and old to choose from. Check out real world photos to compare alternatives. I started with Pentax, went down the road switching brands, nothing felt right again until I came back. This is just my own opinion and experience, good luck!

Another vote for the K-x. There's simply nothing that beats it, not just in low-light capabilties, but in just about every other feature. And for what it's going for, it's definitely worth shelling the extra bucks over the K-m for.

All the best for the safe delivery of your second little one, and welcome to the forum.

Just get the K-x. With the K-m you'll always be wishing you got the K-x instead, especially considering how it barely costs any more than the K-m to get.

Also you could pick up a k200d second hand and have even more money spare to put towards some lens. Its a great camera with lots of room for you to grow with it.
Has some great feature's the kx does not have such as weather sealing and top lcd

I'd take the K-x, I'd guess that you'll still drool over K-x if you get the K200D because K-x is such a fine camera But only you know what you really want, but go for what you truly want and leave no regret!

At the moment I'm going with K-X, kit lens & 55-200 for €407.

My only concern is are 2nd hand lens a lot more expensive than Canon/Nikon- mainly nifty fifty or 35mm fixed (want a lens for pics of toddler & new baby coming.
Pentax supports all the lenses they have made since way back when even upto the M42 or screw mount lens.
They can all work on your K-x if you opt to get it.
All these lenses are far more affordable than the other brand camera mounts or lenses as the other brands have either changed their mounts over the years to only support their newer mount lenses.
I think it is only Pentax that supports all their lenses ever made.
Yuo can buy a lot more lens selection than you can get for the other camera brands.

With the M42 lenses however, you have to get the adapter.
With the other K-mounts, you just have to mount and use albeit manual focus.
Manual focus is actually fine and more precise if you are in no hurry.
There are thousands of lenses that have the K-mount.

no question about it. kx is the best bang-for-the-buck right now.

I would definitely go with the Kx. I think the price is really hard to beat for the outstanding high ISO performance. The newer high ISO cameras allows one to use smaller apertures for greater DOF, insurance on the AF depth, indoor events, just walking around shops in the evening, etc. Lots of fun. Besides the built-in HDR, the Kx has 3 image, up to 3 ev steps per image, auto exposure bracketing, which is really useful for sophisticated HDR software like photomatix and dozens of other similar software.

Truth in advertising - i have the K20 currently and am seriously thinking about the Kx as a second camera for theatre and walk around pics. But i don't have it yet.
