I have used RCR-V3 batteries for a little more than two years in my DS now. No problems. I bought three sets and two chargers and it has worked just fine. They look like this:

Above: PL3B-142

I have got between 500-1100 pictures a charge from these batteries. The lower number when shooting at nights in the winter, the higher when shooting away in the summertime without much chimpin. Totally reliable. Last summer I just brought the batteries and left the charger at home while going on vacation for 2 weeks.

If I had to start over again now I think I would buy Eneloops instead. They are more versatile as they can be used in many flashes and other gadgets like MP3-players and so on.

hth,
I use the same in my DS, because off the good experiences from Jonas last year. No problems after 8000 shot, but no garantee!

Panasonic

I have just been on a 2 week trip to Lapland and got a set of CRV3s for the purpose, as I knew access to power would be limited.

I got approx. 1100 pictures out of them over 2 weeks, but this was with a fair amount of reviewing and deleting.

I got Panasonic brand ones, which at the time were on special offer from 7dayshop.com; they were also available from Amazon UK via, if I remember correctly, a company called Powerplanet for a similar price - I think I paid about £11 for a set of 2.

Hope this helps,

Aidan
