Crv3

I'm based in central London with plenty of specialised photographic shops around but...
I have read and heard about CRV3s. Apparently long lasting batteries for K100D. But the only brand of those I found around was Energizers Lithium ones. I know they should be good, but is there any other brand, or rechargable ones???
thanx

As far as I've read in these forums the cheaper crv3s should be a better buy (pic/price) and the rechargeable ones should be stayed away from (too high voltage).

As far as I remember a member was comparing the crv3 from kodak and the ones from energizer.

The energizer were about 40% more expensive but gave around 10% increase in photos.

I read it in a thread in these forums. I don't have any experience myself though. I'm sure if you search for it in the accessories section you'll find some threads, quite recent, about crv3 batteries.

crv3

Hi Ive used both Energizer and Kodak CRV3 batteries and have found them to be almost the same, The Kodak ones giving more pictures by about 20 frames. Both are approx £10 each but seem to last about 600 -700 frames @ 6Mg JPG using them on RAW they last approx 100-150 frames less. Stay away from rechargable CRV3 batteries I blew my *ist DL using them and it cost £200 to have it fixed, an expensive mistake.

That was me. It's important to note, though, that these results are from one set of each. It's possible that the cheaper Kodak ones have larger variation. Sanyo also makes a cheap version which I haven't tried.

Also, in both case, the numbers were pretty large -- 2500+ shots.

Drat. Wish you were not in London. In the US we have a chain drug store called Walgreens. I use their own branded CVR3's. LOVE them. Get miles and miles out of one set.

Beware cheap rechargable CRVs on ebay

I purchased a couple of sets of rcrv from a guy on ebay in Jersey. His advertising said they were compatable with all dslr's and even listed the *ist DL and the rest of the range. I mailed him to get confirmation and he replied saying garunteed to work with no problems. I used them for about 300 frames then the camera started to turn off on its own and the lcd screen blacked out and the battery compartment bagain to smoke. I removed them but alas 1 dead camera. Pentax replaced the battery compartment and some other bits all in all £200 and a month without the camera.

Have just upgraded to K10D so will use *ist DL as spare

Stay away from rcrv!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which RCR-V3 you had exactly? Got any pictures? As with everything else, a battery is not just a battery, there are poorly design/made products. My cousin once had some generic alkaline AA bought from Costco and one of them overheat in his gameboy. Fortunately he bought it to my attention soon enough or the whole thing might smoke. Back to those RCR-V3, there are good one and there are tons of bad ones. I suppose those you had were bad ones as there are many people using the good ones w/o problem for years, me included. However, if I were to recommend today, I say go with Sanyo Eneloop unless one must squeeze the last bit of AF performance out of their already slow AF.

hi guys, there are some pretty wild differences in life expectancy for crv3s
davekimber states 600-700 for JPEG and 150 for RAW
and mattdm states 2500+ pretty huge differnce, or not? so has anybody else experience?
I mean for 150 frames for RAW it's not worth it, I shoot mostly RAW and I can make 150 frames in one day in Kew gardens...

I'm not using the flash, which might account for some of it.

I also turn off the LCD automatic-review. I do, however, go through and rotate all portrait-orientation pictures on the camera itself (due to an annoying defect in my workflow that I really ought to fix). And that's clearly a waste of power.

Note that Dave says 100-150 fewer with RAW, so something like 500 frames. Even then, I'm a bit surprised that the difference is so significant for RAW files. I'd think they'd be less work for the camera, and it seems odd that writing to the memory card would account for that much of the power draw. (If so, brand of SD card used may make a huge difference here.)

I have used RCR-V3 batteries for a little more than two years in my DS now. No problems. I bought three sets and two chargers and it has worked just fine. They look like this:

Above: PL3B-142

I have got between 500-1100 pictures a charge from these batteries. The lower number when shooting at nights in the winter, the higher when shooting away in the summertime without much chimpin. Totally reliable. Last summer I just brought the batteries and left the charger at home while going on vacation for 2 weeks.

If I had to start over again now I think I would buy Eneloops instead. They are more versatile as they can be used in many flashes and other gadgets like MP3-players and so on.

Can you measure if after full charge they show 3V or 3.5V? Thanks
