Demand Pentax to provide interval/time-lapse option for K-x

It is advertised as a feature on the product tour part of their website, and I purchased the camera (in-part) anticipating this function. To say now that they simply don't know if and when it will be implemented (months after product release) is ridiculous. Even if you're not a K-x owner, please contact Pentax and let them know that this is an issue. For those who are curious, the text of my discussion with their customer support is reprinted below:

Please wait while we find an agent to assist you...
You have been connected to Randall S.
Randall S: Thank you for contacting Pentax Chat Support. How may I help you?
Mark Weber: Hi. I just wrote an email with a question about my new K-x, but then noticed this live support option...
Randall S: okay
Mark Weber: I cannot figure out how to do time-lapse with it, and I've read the entire manual
Randall S: you're trying to do interval shooting?
Mark Weber: yep
Randall S: The K-x does not offer an interval shooting mode.
Mark Weber: but it offers time-lapse...
Mark Weber: I'm not sure how they're different
Randall S: where do you see time lapse on the camera?
Mark Weber: i see it in the "product tour' offered on pentaximaging.com. I assume that's the website?
Randall S: its not on the K-x. that may be referring to the K-7
Mark Weber: no, it's on the product tour for the k-x. you advertise it as having that feature
Mark Weber: K-x Black - Official PENTAX Imaging Web Site
Randall S: I'm loading the demo now.
Mark Weber: "interval... time-lapse, and more"
Mark Weber: from the "creative control" segment
Mark Weber: whether you refer to it as interval or time-lapse, both are promised features
Randall S: we're checking it now.
Mark Weber: any luck?
Randall S: we've got the demo to play and we heard the interval and time-lapse mentioned... but we are not finding anything on the camera in any firmware version. The camera does have HDR and multi-exposure, but we're checking the sub-menus now.
Randall S: We're thinkng there is an error on the demo but the product specialist in Golden is going to check into this further.
Randall S: i'll keep your email address and let you know what we find out.
Mark Weber: can you also let me know if/when you plan on adding that feature?
Randall S: we'll let you know if that is planned.
Mark Weber: i assume it hasn't been implemented yet, but would like to know whether i need to return my camera
Randall S: it probably will not be implemented on the K-x because its an entry level camera. If you bought the camera for this feature and are within the return period, I would recommend you return it.
Mark Weber: is there an email address where i can follow-up?
Randall S: you can follow up here but there isn't another email address.
Mark Weber: ok, i'll try again next week. thanks for the help

It would certainly be nice if they enabled that feature, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to do so.

If this feature is important to you, it may be less hassle to simply explore 3rd party options to enable interval shooting on the K-x, like this (for about 35 Euros including free world-wide delivery):
gentLED Camera Remote Control: Options

or this (for about US$150):
More about the Pclix LT

I suspect both of these devices would also offer more features than anything Pentax would include in the camera firmware.

I ordered the gentled AUTO gadget yesterday - it sounds OK.

If you have a graphing calculator you can use that as an intervalometer...

No, he couldnt, because the K-x doesnt have that jack, only IR and the calculator solution, although very cool, doesnt take IR into consideration.

That would be a pretty nice feature to have...I actually have thought about doing some time lapse at some point. I know this is probably a stupid question....but does anyone know if anyone else has tried to install the K-7 firmware on the K-x? It probably isn't possible but I do remember when I used to own my 10D that I was able to install the 20D firmware to get a few more ISO choices and a few other features that the 10D didn't have.

Unfortunately I am already falling for the K-x and can't imagine deciding on something else at this point, but the follow-ups from Pentax have been really disappointing - basically, that I should return the camera if it fails to meet my needs (but no apologies that they continue to advertise features that it does not and likely will not possess.)

On the bright side, time-lapse probably would have been a total battery-killer anyway... though admittedly a really cool one.

People seem to think they have a right to demand K-7 features in a camera that cost's half what a K-7 costs.
This may not be realistic.

I DO expect them to provide features that are advertised.

To not do so is illegal.

i am not sure regarding the "legality" but I believe in canada, if they offer features on a product and then don't deliver, you are within your right under the consumer act to have them supply a product with those features at the price paid. i.e. they should give you a K7 if that is the camera with the feature

Sounds like a simple error or oversight on the part of the people putting the website together. I suspect that the Terms & Conditions of the site protect Pentax from any legal action unless it can be shown that they intentionally deceived or were otherwise negligent. That sounds expensive.

I'd either get a remote that provides the features you want or return the camera.

Is it worth it to you to sue Pentax over a mistake in their marketing materials?

from pentax usa...
what they are saying is that they are not responsible for ANYTHING!!! lol !!!
it's like sgt schultz from hogan's heroes... "i know nothing, i see nothing, i hear nothing !!"
best course of action.. contact the attorney general's office in colorado...
File a Consumer Complaint | Colorado State Attorney General
in theses days of post wall street meltdown, corporate responsibility should be of primary concern to pentax...and their customers should be served with respect and deference...
simple.. if pentax stated on their corporate website that the k-x has time lapse capability, then it damn well should... or they should be held liable and make appropriate compensation to consumers.....

They can state whatever waivers they like, but it doesn't mean someone can't bring a successful suit. I hacked up a remote to do the trick. Cheaper than a lawyer.

Sure, the OP could sue for $600. Too bad that it will cost him $10-15K. Totally worth it.
