K20 upgrade to K7 or Kx

I currently own a K20d. It has been a fine camera for the last year but I find myself wanting a smaller body. I have been given a nice sum of cash for my Birthday by my wife and am considering either
1. Sell the K20 and buy a K7

2. Keep the K20 and buy a KX as a second body.

Any comments are appreciated

Option 3.
Stay with the K20 and buy some lenses...

Option 4, sell the K20D, buy a K-x and even MORE lenses. The K20D is a pretty darn nice camera (missed it the whole time I had a Canon 40D) but with the K-x... I don't miss it anymore.

time for the mantra again

Ask yourself: 1) Where am I going? 2) What will get me there? 3) What do I want to do that I can't do with what I've already got? 4) How much am I willing to spend?

If you NEED better high-ISO performance, get a Kx. If you NEED to do high-res video, or you WANT the newest in-camera editing goodies, get a Kx or a K7. If none of the above, keep the K20 and buy more glass, based on the mantra above. If you think you need to upgrade with every new model, you're doomed. DOOMED!

This time last year was when I upgraded to the K20 from the K100. I understand what you mean about size, however the K7 has been out for almost a year and its price is been coming down gradually. A successor has not been announced. Who knows when a new top of the line will be announced, and when it does, the price will come down a fair amount judging from what the K20's price did.

I would wait, jump a generation till a year from now. The K7's replacement should be the same form factor. I suggest the glass route...

I'd go for either the K-7 or just stick with the K20. The K-x could be seen as a downgrade as it's got the simpler controls, no weather sealing, etc.

sell then buy a Canon 550D ?

Or just wait for the K-7 successor The K-x is nice, but you'll feel it's a downgrade.

I think the only reason to replace the K20 is video.

I think that some earlier posts asked the right question. What are your needs, what do want ?

If you need the weather-resistance, the K-x is not the right camera. Keep the K20 or buy the K-7.

Do you need video? In the negative, I keep the K20. If you want the video, go for the K-7

The suggestion of new lenses is a worthwhile one. How many lenses do you have? if you have only the kit lenses, I strongly encourage you to buy some nice lenses: e.g., some prime lenses. The IQ of the prime lenses, for example, is astonishing compared to the kit lenses.

Hope that the comments will help...

I think the idea of more lenses might be the way to go at the moment. A Tamron Macro lens would be nice.... Would like to have a smaller kit that my wife would use but I can address that later with maybe a 4/3rds system for her. Thanks for your ideas.

I recently upgrade to K20D from K10D an it was very nice upgrade. Prices came down a lot for the K20D. While I was waiting for this I started saving and buying lenses. They do not go out of style. Wait for the replacement of K7 to be announce and then the K7 prices will come down. SO you will ge the good of both worlds, lenses and discounted K7 body.
