Anyone tried the HDR capture on the K-x yet?

I didn't even know the camera had this option and when I first learned about the HDR technique and then found out that I could automate it with the camera I was pretty happy...not that I can't do it manually but I was wondering if anyone had any images they could share that were taken with the cameras HDR mode?

K-X HDR feature

Hi, I saw an HDR image on one of the review sites - dcviews or dc resource or something like that. Not much good really. Whites became grey and the overall dynamic range looked dreadful, more like a picture with lightened shadows than anything else. I think it is a gimmick that you should avoid - take three shots using the bracket function (in the drive mode menu) and process these on your PC - I like Dynamic Photo for the processing work and prefer it to the popular Photomatix - it offers more features and better results if you use it carefully.

Good luck.

It's more a feature of marketing than it is of usefulness. I wouldn't consider it as a real buying point. You have two options; HDR Standard, and HDR Strong.

Image with no HDR.
Image with Standard HDR.
Image with Strong HDR.

There are some INCREDIBLE shots of people who used it in the Techniques forum here. (Do a search for HDR in that forum.)

Yeah, they might also have fiddled with the shots in post, but I don't know if the KX's in-camera HDR be poo-poo'd so quickly. It might be exactly what some people need, and easier.

I haven't played with it yet because I haven't come across or chosen the scene I would want to use it on, and if I'm going to do HDR, I want to plan it out. (The time of day and such.)

Those are bad examples, and for me, when I think HDR, I'm thinking scenics or architectural.

I don't think you want to do this in camera. better off taking differeing exposures and use other software
