I think you need to do the firmware update for it to handle 4G cards.

i am wondering if 999 is the highest it will go? and maybe it stays there until you have LESS than 999 shots left...I know on my 2 gig card, freshly formatted, i get 697 shots listed , multiply that X 2 and you get 1394. So you would have to shoot 396 shots to get it below 999...

That sounds like the logical conclusion. What happens when you switch to RAW mode?

Yep, just checked with mine. Counter only goes to 999.

I only use 2 gig cards, and my 1 cards holds around 688 pictures, while my second card holds around 600 pic's (different brands)

If I remember correctly the larger capacity one holds around 200 RAW files, where the smaller 1 holds around 180.

So I would imagine that if you double my picture count you'll come pretty close to what your 4 gig card will hold.

Since the K100D can handle SDHC cards (I'm pretty sure), you could use up to an 8GB card. The LCD counter only goes up to 999, but it will start counting down once you fill up your card!

Common sense sidenote - putting 1394 eggs in one basket may certainly be convenient but it'd make one reeeaaaaally unhappy chef should they all go bust for some reason.

Like one Canadian member who is currently holidaying in Australia at the moment ... and he has had a directory structure corrupt on him ... he can't access anything at the moment.

I hope he can retrieve the photos though.

I'd be spewing.

point made

sounds as you may want to buy some insurance. it is nice that the camera can handle the SDHC cards, but as you pointed out, the counter only goes to 999. seems more reasonable to buy several 1 GB cards or 512MB cards, carry the extras and just in case that you lose a card or have a card that dies, you are only missing that card. still the insurance is to save to many cards and back them up to a drive (like a laptop) or the portable systems when you can, but extra help, as suggested from various medium, mark your cards with numbers 1,2,3,4 and so on.
