K10D firmware upgrades

Hi all,

I don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere but here goes. I have version 1.3 loaded on my K10 and as far as I know ver 1.3 is the most recent firmware update for the K10. I tried a couple of DA 17~70/4 lenses on the K10 today and neither of the lenses would autofocus. My DA 70/2.4 and the DA* 16~50 both worked fine so the problem appears to be with the DA 17~70. According to the pamphlet in the box they should work with the K10 with this upgrade. Is there a more recent upgrade that I am not aware of? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

Tom G

v1.30 turned on SDM. Isn't the 17-70 SDM only? You say your 16-50 is working fine, is it focusing with SDM or the screw drive (which ag v1.30 would surprise me)? If the 16-50 is using the Screw drive focus, you aren't using v1.30 software. Press the menu button while turning on the camera to verify. Update if needed and if the 17-70 still doesn't work, defective lens .

As you tried a couple of 17-70s (something JeffJS overlooked, I think), there is a good chance that it's the body in some way. Maybe cleaning the contacts might help.

Could be the case although my DA 70/2.4 worked just fine. I was in a camera store, actually two different stores, and the DA 17-70 seemed to work fine on the K7 they had in stock but not on the K10.

The DA70 is not a SDM lens as far as I know. So screw drive and that works.

No, But the DA*16-50 IS SDM and if firmware 1.30 is installed in the camera, then only SDM will work. That's what I was driving at. IF the SDM on the DA* lens works, then the problem is not the body. If the 16-50 focuses via Screw drive, then the Firmware is not at v1.30. Many have tried and many have failed to disable SDM for dual focus lenses on an SDM body. I didn't overlook anything.

You can reverse the firmware to a previous one and try it again. It is interesting why one lens work and the other do not. Did both lenses work on the K7? To rule out the lens. If both work, then it is something in your camera.

That is what I was referring to. Trying multiple 17-70s and they don't work indicates a faulty body in my opinion, not a faulty lens (unless there is a batch of bad 17-70s).

Let's hear what Tom G says. He clearly stated in the opening post that he is on 1.3 so a re-assurance regarding that will make us help him in the right direction.

Correct, I got that part. The reason I'm questioning it is that he said the 16-50 works. I am unclear if that was SDM or screw drive since that lens does both.

I've been using DA 17-70 since it came out in 2008 with my K10D - firmware 1.3. So you can rule that out.

There are three visions of the problem:
1) Author mistaken, that he has 1.30 and his DA* 16-50 actually focuses by screw-drive.
2) Author mistaken MF indication with DA 17-70 appearing in the viewfinder and didn't tried to push AF button to focus. (There were such strange reports).
3) Something else.
