external flash FIF-500ftz

so I was given an FIF-500ftz and I'm trying to get it to work with my istDs. It seems as though the camera recognizes that the flash is there because when I use my 18-50mm zoom, the flash will readjust to whatever I zoom to. The problem is that the flash will not go off... maybe I'm neglecting some setting or function on the camera/flash, I don't know... can anyone give me some step by step instructions on how to get it to work? Or tell me what I'm missing? 'twould be appreciated.

You ever get any help with this? I've got an *istDS myself. Send me a private message if you're still struggling.

are you sure of the flash type

it should be AF 500FTZ and it should work on the *istDs.

I use mine frequently on the *istD because both the D and DS support TTL flash, and the camera shouold switch mode automatically
