I looked at the ad and noticed that no one had posted a comment yet. Perhaps customers are going with "if it's too good to be true it probably isn't."

I bought my battery at deal extreme works and looks exactly the same except for the label on the back which does not say Pentax. It took the same amount of time to charge and approximately the same amount of pictures taken. It cost me $12 to my door can't be that.

It says that it was put on sale on 5th of april - so no way that someone could have posted some comments. I will buy one, at this price is worth a shot - hope will not burst in my k7 )

Truth is you cannot know what is the production price for these batteries, possibly the higher prices just offer higher margins...

On the other hand, it could be a con: http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B002TGW394/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?...owViewpoints=1

I have one of these 3rd party batteries for my K-7. While I did not experience any problems with the battery, my general observation is that it does not hold charges as long as the pentax original one (no scientific testing done of course) and field testing seem to suggest that the original battery can last longer for more photo shoots...but i think this is expected given that the 3rd party batt has less mAH capacity anyway.

Given the kind of price i get for the batt, i prolly shouldn't compain But if i need another battery, i will prolly shell out more money this time round to get an original pentax one.

I've two from ebay. All ok.
Its not actually $1 if you look carefully. One must consider shipping cost. This will be $9, which is around the ball park figure for a 3rd party.

I guess its important to point out that not all 3rd party Batts are the same. Some got higher mAh than the OEM batt, and some lower. I know Frank had a super high capacity 3rd party batt for his K7, and he got more shots than the oem.

I have two eBay batteries as backups (this for my K20D) and can agree with the comment above that they do not hold as much charge as the Pentax original. However, for a fraction of the price they are a good deal.

I have one original and one aftermarket battery and to tell the truth there not all that different. Both seem to hold charge for a very long time and I get about the same amount of shots from both.

I can't see the post in clubsnap pentax forum as the server is busy, but if you have a chance, Frank has shared his experience in using the after market K7 battery vs OEM. If my memory serves me right, its a 2700mAh!!

EDIT: found his post.. it was actually 3500mAh! Link here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/956325-post13.html

Ebay usually sells the 1400, 1800, 1860 (same as OEM). Some higher ones are 1900, 2000mAh.

New Battery For PENTAX D-LI90 DSLR K7 K-7 UK local ship - eBay, For Pentax, Digital Camera Batteries, Photography. (end time 01-May-10 21:37:18 AEST)

If you got less than the oem capacity, then I would expect you would get less shots out of it.

One more thing to add... please check the voltage of your third party batt. I know some are 7.2V and some are 7.4V. What are the effects? No idea, but I'll try to stick with oem as close as possible. Better be safe than sorry.

I've been using third party batteries in my Pentax DSLRs forever. I typically seek out the ones that claim to have the highest capacity. Never paid more than $10 for one and can't say I've ever had a problem with them. For all I know, they are all one and the same and the price difference is the sticker on the battery, the seller, and the packaging. I also use a third party hang on the wall charger (I hate extension cords) that doubles for charging in the car and again, no problems. Some of my batteries are 3 years old.
