ACR calibration for *ist DS

Question for those who have Pentax *is DS, take pictures into RAW and use ACR for RAW files processing.

In my opinion default settings of ACR aren't ideal and require calibration.

How do you calibrate it and what are your ACR calibration settings for *ist DS.

Thank you

ACR Settings?

By 'settings' do you mean the color hue/saturation defaults? I almost never touch those settings unless I'm deliberately attempting to alter a single color, for example de-saturating the red channel. Overall I find the colors to be perfect in ACR, if there is a color problem it is usually a white balance discrepancy.

If you mean the exposure/shadows/brightness/contrast, I virtually never use ACR's suggested settings. I also don't use the same settings for two pictures, as each one requires its own 'tweaking' depending on the subject, the desired output, the lens used, and my shooting skill.

I have turned ACR's sharpening off but other than that I let ACR set evrything automatically, then adjust from there. Over in Photoshop I add contrast, typically 6% and then smart sharpen. ACR's contrast is too low and adding sharpening in ACR is too early in the process.

Did you know that you can have ACR apply sharpening only in preview? It's very helpful in making adjustments, because you get an idea of how it'll look with final sharpening, but when you save the file, the sharpening is not applied. It's someplace in the preferences. Very handy.

Try a Gretag-MacBeth Card

I used a Gretag-MacBeth card and the ACR-Calibrator script from to calibrate CS2 for my DL. It did a better job than I did manually calibrating it.

Incidentally, I have my saturation set at about 10% I think.

Huh, $75 for that... Looks like rip-off for me.

What is it made of, that Gretag card?
