Predictions on future prices of K-7

The K-7 street price is now $899 on Amazon, and $829 at Camera Kings, down from original list of $1,099 6 or 8 months ago.

When do you think it will sell for $700? $600? That is the range that will get my attention.

Well, the K20d is recently getting to half it's original price. That camera has been available for over 2 years now. There's going to be a point though that the K7 will not go much lower, in the near future.

My opinion? Never. Based on the pricing trends of the K20D, which the K-7 is following almost exactly, I think $750-$799 is as low as the K-7 will drop.

I just pulled the trigger on the K-7 from J&R for $899, with 5% bing cashback, and a free 18-55 II. The cashback amounts to 45 dollars, and the free kit lens is worth roughly that amount as well.

Is the K20d still being manufactured today? Or are the ones being sold "new" leftover inventory from earlier manufacture?

What is the typical duration of a manufacturing run of this sort of camera? I'm sure it depends to some degree on popularity.

How long do you think the K-7 will still be manufactured?

The K-7 will be at $500 by the end of the year, mark my words.

There's a lot of reasons for this, the K10D is now currently sometimes at $250, the K20D sometimes at $400, so it's only logical. The only thing that would make this certain however is if Pentax releases another successor of it.

Honestly I think Pentax should stop lowering the price of the K-7 and keep it at the $1000ish mark. For some time, a lot of friends of mine have considered a K-7 for it's features but then thought "this must be a lousy camera if it's this cheap..." Most of us on the forums don't think this b/c we are informed, but for the most part, the general public buying these cameras (maybe not the average joe but obviously not a pro photographer) will be ignorant and demand that high quality= high price. I really think the K-7 is a good value, but at this point it might be too good of a value, esspecially when it's competitors the D300s and 7D have stayed at their launch price points while the K-7 has went down $500.
^^^ Just asserting my opinion.

For me in August the camera can reach the price on 600$, it's depends from a new Pentax body but at the moment there are no concrete rumors about a new body and wihc, entry level or not.
Maybe in September is almost sure a price about 600$.

The price of the K7 will drop to somewhere between 700 and 750, right before the release of the next camera. There are not new K10s out there for 250 and new K20s for 400. Those are used prices. Truthfully, once a camera goes out of production, the prices begin to climb.

I got my K20 near the bottom of the price dip at 650 and a month later it was back up to 700 dollars.

K-7 and...

... LR3 rock!

With the evolution of Lightroom 3 into THE go-to app for killing noise, I see very little reason for Pentax to lower the price of its K-7 much below $1K US. In fact, if the price of LR3 is reasonable, I can imagine Pentax increasing its K-7's production run and increasing its price. The K-7 with LR3 is a very attractive combination and could accelerate to the expanding popularity of all Pentax products.

So for the rest of us, this increased demand may up prices across the board for Pentax. If there's a hole in your lens map, perhaps you should consider filling it now, while you still can!

Fair warning and cheers...

Actually K-7 was $1,299 at launch

Actually K-7 was $1,299 at launch and I suspect it will break below $700 very soon. Just like my K20D did when I bought it new for $689

Pentax always inflates their dslr launch prices, more so than Canon & Nikon do. Pentax is quite predictable, wait 9 months and expect to pay about half of launch:

Deja-vu

Well, I just did a search and K7 body only is going for (as low as) $678 (%$#@* ??)

Vevandi - Pentax K7 14.6 MP SLR Digital Camera Kit

.... now, who knows if they really have them in stock, or if they will really sell and/or ship them, or are they used and not new (refurbished?) or ....? Have never heard of these places, but the price indications are starting to show a trend here.

The more traditional retailers have the price in the high $800 - starting at about $875 and up...

Pentax K-7 Digital SLR Camera (Body Only - Black)

K20D bodies (apparently new old stock) are at about $670 (and higher) which would be a floor.

Pentax K20D Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

K20 new old stock + 200 = the K7's current new body only lowest retail price area, which makes sense.

The K-7 will drop to $740 at the end of this year and the K-8 replacement will come out 1-3 months afterward of next year. Just my guess.
