K200D save direct to laptop?

Is it possible to connect the K200D to a laptop or computer for live view and direct capture? When I am doing close-ups of flowers, for instance, the camera screen is really inadequate for detail such as sharp focus etc. Also, when the camera is precisely positioned it is too easy to disturb it when pressing the view button. I have tried with the USB connection but got nowhere. Do I need software? I crave a similar setup to Pixie photo etc where the live view can be seen on the monitor and the image captured directly to the computer. This second attribute is not so important to me, but might be handy.

You will need the Pentax Remote Assistant.
It is not capable though of live view but it would save the files to your comp.
I'm not sure exactly what version Pentax remote assistant the K200D uses.
Others here who has the K200D might chime in to give you a more precise info.

Thank you. Pentax Remote Assistant - where can I find that? if I could save the pics directly to the computer at least i would be able to assess the pictures as I go. Great!

After a little googling, I think the Pentax Remote Assistant is not compatible with the K200D.
Sorry to get your hopes up.
The Pentax Remote Assistant though was compatible with the *istD upto the K10D and K20D.
I wonder why it skipped the K200D when there was a Pentax Remote Assistant 3 for the K20D.
The first version of the PRA works on my K100D super as I have it installed in my laptop.
There are some users reporting the Pentax Remote Assistant 1 working, but not 100% or erratically with the K200D.
You might want to try it.
You can get the Pentax Remote Assistant 1 on the Pentax site itself.
Sorry again for getting your hopes up.

You are quite right - PRA - does not work for the K200. Is there any other software out there that does a similar job?

To my knowledge there is no software that will work. The K200D and up do not have the hardware for such use. I had quite a conversation with Pentax about it.

That's not the end of the story, just upgrade to the K20D since it is now affordable and it is far more better than the K200D..then you can use it with the Pentax Remote Assistant 3!
Isn't it time to upgrade?

They have not and apparently do not plan to update the firmware for the K200d. So any enhanced features are unlikely.

The K20D is the last that was compatible with the remote assistant.
Pentax doesn't develop the PRA anymore for its newer models.
Tethered to a computer can lo longer work.
Some even tried using the Eye-fi SD cards (wi-fi) as an alternative but even those cards don't support Pentax software.
Third party developers would only develop for those products that sell a lot to be profitable.
Hopefully, the K-x would put the Pentax brand again on that spot!

Ho hum......end of story. Perhaps a K20D will come my way one day. I love my K200D - it's grouse! and I really did imagine at one time that it would do me for ever. Funny how we always expect more than we got!
