PS: I just checked my RAW files.
On last one, the shuttercount reads: 24964
Oh well, so maybe I went twice over and didn't even realise

Not bad shuttercount for 18 odd months of life for the camera ....

That is still a disappointing number when the shutter is supposed to last to 100K. Is that true or am I just making this number up in my head.

for that price? never!
I'd rather keep testing/readjusting as needed on weekly basis

Damn! I hope they'll bring new 2 dial camera out soon or I'll have to sell some stuff to get the K-7 with sensor I really don't like....

oh well, it's a beautiful life.....
Why don't you just buy used K10D? I sold mine with DA 16-45/4 and grip for 350 euros a couple of months ago (or i sold the lens for 250 euros and gave a drop damaged body with it for 100 euros). You could get a little used body for that repair prize, even a KIT if you are lucky.

In another thread, Lowell mentioned a cost of $325 (or so; canadian I assume) for the repair that he mentions in post #11.

Your call I think it's going to be a difficult one if that is indeed the cost.
thats still cheaper than my plumber

The shutter and the mirror box assembly are different parts.
The shutter may be rated to 100K shots but the issue is with the mirror.
Perhaps that's why the K-10 is labeled as a semi-professional camera.

I know I can get cheap (ish) used K10Ds these days. But I wouldn't buy one unless it wouldn't have less than 5000 shutter cycles. Even than I'd be bit nervous.
As I said, for now, I'll just use my other K10D with MUCH lower shutter count.

Axl, I have the similar situation with my K10D, that happened around this time last year when I was in the middle of my cruise/trip - lucky I also had my K100D with me. The whole mirror assembly felt apart on the K10D. It didn't seem to die gradually (focus misalign or something) - but rather abruptly. Good thing it was still under warranty (2-year warranty in Canada) and Pentax replaced the mirror assembly for free. I remember the shutter count at that time was around 32k (and now it is around 43k). Since then I also took the camera in for adjustment because I have some BF/FF issues with my 43mm ltd (which I didn't have it before) and they also fixed that - I had the debug menu loaded before but since then they have reloaded the latest firmware.

If like other poster have suggested, the design of the mirror box will misalign itself over time, then perhaps, I need to think about the K-7 sooner rather than later.
