Pentax K10D - infrared remote release - film versions work too

I had been looking for the new model infrared release for my K10D but my local dealer as well as B & H were out of stock.

Fortunately, my local dealer spoke to the Pentax sales rep and was told the the the D series for the film cameras would work just as well. My dealer has one still in stock and it does the job!!!

Some universals do, so far not one remote I've tried has reliably triggered my K10D with any of the reccommended codes.

There's also a PalmOS program that allows the PDA to trigger a Pentax camera via the IR port, but sadly it does not work on all PalmOS PDAs, and my Treo 650 is in that category - It can trigger my K10D about 10% of the time.

If it's not too much trouble, precisely how and where did you discover the recommended codes for the K10D ? I've just got my K10D and would greatly appreciate the necessary information if it's available somewhere ???

Go to instructables.com and search for "Pentax".

Keep in mind that not everyone has had success. I haven't even with my (quite versatile but discontinued) Radio Shack 15-2116 OFA-based programmable remote, although now that I've found the specifications of the Pentax trigger code I may be able to reprogram the RS remote (once I find my programming cable...)

I am using a TWIN1 IR remote ... that also comes with a cable with 2.5mm jacks ... works a charm.

used as an IR remote ... it AF's and then takes the shot (I used the 3 sec remote option).

With the cable attached though ... I can use the Bulb mode option (with half shutter usage as well) ... and manually select the time I wish the shutter to be open.

Not badly priced either.

Can anyone using a TV remote control tell me how the range is?

I hate the very limited range of the IR remote.
In my opinion they should at least have enough range to work across the average city street
