Two weeks ago about 870 € + kit lens. Price is high rising..
Lucky me, I managed K7 kit for 939,90 € price (It will arrive to me Thursday ). Now prices :
Pentax K-7 (18-55 mm), järjestelmäkamera alk. 944€ - Hintaseuranta.fi
Thats because the Euro is tanking. The euro has fallen 9% against the yen since the start of May. The price to replenish their stock is probably going up and they are increasing their prices accordingly.

Don't laugh but I still have a K10D pic on the cork board above my desk. It was a major dream for several years and even now it's still about as unaffordable to me as the new K-x is, though not quite. When you don't even own a DSLR it's all semantics really. Sure, I'd love to own a K-7, who wouldn't? It's a stunning camera, drool-worthy, and the K-X is pretty sweet too, but my first DSLR probably will be someone's old K10D simply because $200 is something my budget can get a lot closer to at some point in the near future.

I can't afford to sneer at less megapixels or not so perfect ISO's. It's like being able to afford an old Beetle versus a shiny new one. The shiny new one makes me dream, and grin whenever I see one, but I could still get by with the one from 1970 whatever if I have to and I'd still be grateful for having it just because it would mean I actually had my own wheels!

I mean to get me the best DSLR I can afford at the time, period and if that is the much longed for K10D, then so be it. I'll treat it with as much respect as any K7 out there, I promise.

I still shoot with a pentax ist dl- only useable iso's are 200 and 400, 800 if i'm feeling lucky or plan to convert to b&w

takes about 6 photos in burst then dies, AF takes no less than 3 seconds to stop hunting

6mp so can barely print A3 and cropping is a non option

super low rez rear screen

but I love it

OMG! $764 would be a great father's day gift!

hmmm. the k20 dropped to as low as $700 IIRC when the K7 was close to being released

at prices like these, a new body must be close to being released. photokina is 101 days away

I'm glad I got mine a year ago -- I've certainly gotten $500 of use out of it.

Canon is getting ready to release the 60D, Sony the A700 replacement, Olympus has the E-30 & E-3 replacements set to be released, & Panasonic has the GH2.

It is going to be a very competitive market for the cameras at the $1,000.00 +/-.

Pentax knows the closer we get to Sept. the more people are willing to wait, and the lower the prices need to be to get people off the fence.

$750 for a camera with the K-7 specs and quality would be a steal, but you just might get your wish.

Of course if you live in Europe it might be tough. The Euro is falling faster than the prices.

The K10 is still a great camera. At low iso, it probably out shoots the K20 and K7. There is certainly nothing wrong with going for what you can afford -- it really isn't the equipment (in general), but the person behind the camera who makes the difference. There are many people still shooting with K100's and even *ist's. I think you would be very satisfied with the K10.

[NASTY MODE] Carrefour made a really tempting offer on a Kx+sigma18-200 kit for 300€ after rebate here in France in April... Once the lens was sold, it put my brand new Kx at 150€! [/NASTY MODE]

(No need to say that Carrefour was overwhelmed by commands and is still struggling to honor all of them, trying to rip customers by proposing nikon or canon "replacements")

I bought my K20D in Nov 2008 for $689

I bought my K20D in Nov 2008 for $689

That was also a bi-annual photokina year, two months after the big imaging show in Germany.

I considered adding a 2nd one when it got down to $649, but I didn't. I bought a D700 and a couple new nikon lenses instead.

My point is, K-7 will drop below $700 new. You'll see.
I've followed this Pentax camera pricing game since I paid full list price for a Pentax film camera in 2002, only to see it drop by half a year later.

Unless a photographer has no dslr inhand, its best to wait to pay half the money for Pentax best dslrs.
$600 discount for waiting to buy a "$1299" camera is worth it to me. But I already own a dslr, so no photo opportunities are missed.

I still own some of my Pentax lenses, I still could buy a K-7, but no way will I pay more than $699.

BuyDig warning

The lowest price I see from an authorized pentax retailer is $979 @ buydig. I have done business with them before and was satisfied with the transaction.
Just a heads up, the BuyDig kit price is now $900.
But they ship the 18-55 AL II lens, which is not weather sealed, in spite of their product description which lists the WR.

I bought it and was able to get an exchange since it didn't match the description.
My new package is in the post, so I'll see if it's corrected when it arrives.

Save your time and buy from somebody who won't cut those corners.

ps: BuyDig also goes by Beach Camera, which also sells through Buy.com.

Edit: Some have noted their positive experiences with buydig with other products; and I am getting a, hopefully proper, exchange. (Phone service was quick too) But in this case, the lens switcharoo is still intentional and dishonest.
