I smell something fishy here. . .

I was browsing SLRs on ebay, and I came across this K-x.

Does anybody know what exactly is going on? Are they just repainting the camera bodies? I'm just curious and intrigued

I'd love a crazy vibrant K-x like that, but I'm afraid it's probably a little too sketchy, haha!

Isn't that one of the Japan only colours?
Head over to the Pentax Japan website, over 100 colour combinations.
From Pentax.

It probably is one of the Japan-only colors, although I can understand your skepticism. The green color looks a bit unnatural, as if it colored with a computer rather than an actual photograph of a green body. These days such simulated coloring is common among companies that offer color choices on their products. Go to any automotive website and "create" a car for yourself. You'll see what I mean. I used to produce variations of cabinetry artwork for Armstrong room scenes with custom colors.

Oh wow! That explains why every related site I found was in Japanese, which in turn explains why I couldn't read anywhere saying that those are legit, haha!

Now I'm really jealous of Japanese Pentax users. . .

I think I like the black body with the yellow grip the most. For some reason that camera just looks really cool and there's something about it that just works. There's a lot of those cameras that I would hope nobody would buy because they really do look very bad. I mean bad in the way that people would really have no other choice than to look at you funny if you had one of them around your neck. There are just some colors that cameras shouldn't have. A lot of these different color variations are among them.

Body color is just a personal thing. The one you like the most is probably the least favorite by someone else. That's why Pentax provide 100 combinations for you to choose from.

Wow, that is a very bright camera and I would agree that it does look like it has been repainted. However, I too would agree that there are some very cool looking Pentax K-X color combination. I really like the K-x with the olive color with the brown grip! It looks like it is in army camo or something and it really sticks out. I bet it would look really cool if you got a army green neck strap and everyone would think you were in the army.

I still think Pentax is missing a big name recognition marketing opportunity in North America with the pink camera. Simply put the ribbon on the grip, charge $10 extra for it and match the $10 for a total donation of $20 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. You get name recognition and help out a good cause. My wife wouldn't be able to get rid of her K100DS fast enough.

Now it just needs a silver autobots symbol on the lens cap.
