rant - lack of tethering on K7

Not sure if Pentax has a suggestion box or not. I cant find one on their site. I called the local distributor, but they dont have a way to make suggestions back to head office?!?!

Anyways - I wish they would bring back remote assist or at least have the API available for 3rd party developers for the K7 to be tethered. It is a real pain to do studio work without it. A real pain.

I am currently using the HDMI as a stop gap measure, but it is far from the same solution I was using when I had a K20.

If I knew that tethering was not an option when I purchased the K7. I would have made the switch to Canon. Unfortunately I had used the K7 for a month for wild life work and was not in the studio. I am kicking myself that I did not check the K7 for tethering before I purchased it. I just made an assumption, that since the K20 had it, the k7 surely would. *arghh*

Fyi - I moved your thread; this is a more appropriate place for your Pentax DSLR rant.

I totally agree with your statement; why Pentax did not add this as a option is beyond me. I mean the K-7 is a semi-pro body and there are many semi-pros out there that use tethering in their studio. If you look at what canon and nikon offer on their semi-pro cameras they all have tethering on their bodies. For Pentax to leave this off is just unacceptable and it is one of the reasons why I will continue to use my K20D.

I have been using a combination of USB and HDMI:

(1) Connect HDMI cable to camera and monitor
(2) Connect USB to camera
(3) Power up camera and monitor
(4) Use live view on monitor
(5) Set up shot
(6) Shoot
(7) Plug in USB
(8) Copy over file, process, review
(9) Unplug USB
(10)Reboot camera
(11)Go back to step 4

Some suggest using a "Eye-Fi Pro" wireless SD card (and yet another $150), unfortunately this is not yet available where I live.

To use HDMI you require an HDMI/DVI capable monitor and cable. $200-400 should cover it for you.

*arghhh*
