That's what the alternate focusing method does automatically.

While in live view, when you go to autofocus it flips the mirror back down and uses the AF sensors in the viewfinder [like it would normally when you're not in live view] and then once it achieves focus it flips the mirror back up and gives you your live view back.

You just have to find the setting to change it, it should be in the live view menu
