interesting

for the K10D this is 3 1/2 years after product introduction and 2 1/2 years after production ended.

I wonder if pentax took it upon themselves to fix anything else?

Apparently, this is the only change: "Improved stability of recording image for some SDHC Memory card."

Anyone notice improvements in metering accuracy after upgrading firmware?

Maybe it's just some placebo effect, but I'd swear my K20D meters more accurately after installing the latest firmware. Before, I needed a +.5 to +1 exposure override but now it seems much better. Can a firmware upgrade achieve this?

Maybe I'll try it as well. I've been needing a good placebo all day. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

Didn't it happen once before that Pentax snuck in some AF improvements with a firmware update? So maybe something similar could happen again. They seem to like tweaking things without telling anyone that they are working.

Odd people those Pentax folk.

There is also a thread in the Pentax News and Rumors section:

New firmwares today (22 April)

They also have a "silent upgrade" for the K-x on the Japan site recently (~Apr/11/2010) to version 1.01.00.10.

Some history - back in December/2009 there was a short lived 1.01.00.05 (which lasted a bit longer on the US site due to typical lag)

That was updated to 1.01.00.07 which is what most here have updated to.

Some days ago it was reported the Japan site has 1.01.00.10 for the K-x -

firmware version K - x 1.01.00.10 available on Pentax Japan site: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

New K-x firmware?

Installed the updates in minutes on my K200D and my Son's K2000 White...first updates ever for both our since we bought them. Be nice if they did some more, but hey. At least they did something, sorta like MS Zune, all the oldest players get updated with the new ones. Pretty cool when a Manufacturer steps up....

Well crap. I applied the firmware and noted an improvement in metering. I tried it again this morning and performs beautifully. Later I go out to look at some birds and the camera won't power up. The little red card light flashes, the battery icon appears briefly on the top lcd but no power. Holding the Menu button while powering on confirms firmware V 1.04 but still no power. Get in the car to go home and suddenly it's working fine, so head to another destination only to find that it can't be coaxed back to life. Charging the batteries at home makes no difference. Fortunately I have 4 months of warranty left, but it still sucks. Now I have to do the Pentax Canada shuffle and pray that it gets back to me before a trip scheduled for end of May. I'm sure it's not related to the firmware upgrade, but I don't have any idea what the hell happened in the space of an hour.

I am sorry to hear that. Have you done a search here in case anyone else has had the same problem? They might not notice your post at the bottom of this thread.

(I notice you are from my old home town. Was there for international photo day last summer.)

Pentax K20D Touchy SDHC cards.

Well I sent 4G SDHC Kingston cards back to Kingston because they would not work in the K20D last year. My K20D with no updates requires SDHC C6 cards or fast Class 4.

Kingston sent back JAPAN Kingston Cards not CHINA Cards and they worked.

(Kingston has a bad habit of being a commodity SD card supplier and have a large problem with both "cloned" and "defective" cards because of their commodity buying habits. Per Teddy's report and decap in his blog. Teddy is Chumbly. )

I tried the firmware update for my K10D but now lost the ability to enter the debug mode to adjust AF. Is there a way to rollback to version 1.30???

more info about debug mode...

Mine works. I actually tried this method AFTER updating my K10D to ver. 1.31. I didn't know it before it.

Finally something for the K200D after a very long time!
I wonder what it does?
If this is the case then it would be nice again to get a K200D.

I'm going to keep this thread bookmarked because I like to see how updates affect other people before I take the plunge.

Hopefully, GMoney's predicament has nothing to do with it and it'll behave properly before he sends it to service.

But if it DOES improve AF.....JOY!

So do you have to download all the previous firmware upgrades or just the newest one to make them work.
