Pronounciation question K-X

Is there any standardization for how K-X is pronounced?
i.e. "starist" was a surprise.

Kay Ecks?
Kicks?

I've always just called it the Kay Ecks, and I think that is how it was intended to be pronounced, but that is a very interesting question. Actually, I'm still not sure how you are even supposed to pronounce *ist, did we ever get an official Pentax response for that one too?

I thought everybody pronounced all the letters.

I say:

Capital pee eee en tee ayy ex kay dash ex

It takes a while, but people usually wait for me to finish.

I believe it's "asteriskist".

But "K-X" is just how it looks. The alternatives are not so good :-)

Asteriskist? That doesn't sound right, I always just called it Star Ist for some reason, since it sounded better at least to me. But meh, I guess it doesn't matter what people want to call it as long as you can still get it from what they're talking about.

How about "cakes"? ... Just joking.

Around here, people pronounce both the K and the X, and I have not heard anything else, although the Aussies are well-known for shortening everything. (Would any Australian Pentaxian have heard any shortening for the K-x and K-7?)

From a marketing perspective, however, it could be good that the Pentax dSLR have a nickname for the 'grand public'...

there is a K and an X. if you know how to pronounce those two letters, and can say them in the right order, one after the other, then you know how to pronounce it.

More importantly though, does the dash get prounounced? Is it KdashX or just KayEx? Which one is the right saying? Have you heard anyone say the name of the camera out loud like on video reviews or anything? Which one do they use?

So long as we avoid ever speaking to another human being, it will never matter.

It took a while for 2010 to standardize and settle down as "Twenty Ten".

A seasoned mentor who worked a brilliant career spanning Time-Life, Nat'l Geo, and Smithsonian always clearly articulated "Knee-con". Only hearing Paul Simon's "Kodachrome" on the radio protected me from bowing to expert practice and doing likewise.

To the "Dashites" out there-
Wonderful!
You've illustrated my reason for asking in the first place.

Thank you all for your thoughtful inputs.

If you pronounce it phonetically and not like individual letters, it's Klingon for "Canon Sucks."

LOL @Ira. Since I'm new here I bow to the experts and just pronounce the letters without the dash.
