sigma 50-150 back from sigma

just received my 50-150 back from sigma

they updated the lens' firmware and now it AF's properly in Live View on my Kx

it's still as slow as molasses, but at least the AF in LV now works.

for those having the same issue, call sigma and send it in.

Thanks for posting, i had no idea that lenses had "firmware" that can affect whether a lens worked iwth a specific camera or not. Do all those photographers who say that "lenses are forever" know about this :-)

only the newer lenses have FW.
most of the older MF film type lenses do not AFAIK.

This issue arises because Sigma reverse engineer the manufacturer AF routines instead of paying licence fees (not sure what Tamron do). Older Sigma lenses often needed rechipped to work on new cameras - I don't know whether a 'firmware upgrade' still actually means putting a new chip in it or whether it has rewritable storage (e.g. my Metz 48 can theoretically get firmware updates over USB) which you can only get at by opening up the lens.
