Copyright disclaimer in the K100D manual

I just bought my Dad a used K100D and I was looking over the manual and it said something to effect that any image taken with the camera for other than personal enjoyment is an infringement of copyright law. HUH? Am I reading this right? #1 How would they ever know what kind of camera the image came from and how can they enforce it if they could find out?

Would you please post the complete text of that statement?

I don't have the manual and "something to the effect" doesn't give us much to go on.

In any case, it's nonsense and I'm sure there's been something lost in translation.

I'm sure the disclaimer in the K7 is the same. It is a clumsily worded way of saying that it is possible to step on the toes of copyright holders with the product and that care should be taken to not do this.
IE: You can use your camera to take a picture of something that is protected by copyright or other legal reason, and you shouldn't do this sort of thing.

It's the same kind of warning as "Do not use this hair dryer while taking a shower."

+1
In other words, Pentax does not make any copyright claims. The manual just tries to warn you that if you take images for any other purpose than your personal enjoyment (i.e., publish them with or without payment) than you need to take care that you are not violating the right of copyright holders.

I believe this topic has come up before. But since it at least indicates somebody is reading the manual before asking a question it is heartening.

Very true!

To the OP, I forgot to mention your dad might be interested in reading about some “Tips and Tricks” for the K100D.
